Solid hardwood
construction. No cheap pine or poplar. Doll is set up to dance
at the feet of a clawhammer banjo picker or just plain citizen
by attaching the string around one finger and moving your hand.
Very old, nearly extinct, Southern Appalachian tradition. More
than likely originated in slave culture. Low threshold of achievement.
Great entertainment for small children and most adults. Shown
left - ash body and arms/black walnut legs. |
